Wildfires continue to affect areas across B.C. Road conditions and closures can change quickly, so please check your route before travelling and be prepared for delays or detours.
🌲 Be extremely cautious on trails and in the backcountry
Wildfire can leave hazards behind even in areas that may appear safe.
Fire can burn and weaken tree trunks and root systems, creating danger trees that may fall without warning. Burned roots can also make the ground unstable, and hazards may not always be visible.
If you are walking or recreating in an area affected by wildfire:
- Watch for damaged, burned or leaning trees.
- Be aware that trees or branches can fall unexpectedly, particularly during wind.
- Stay away from recently burned areas wherever possible.
- Watch for unstable ground, burned roots, holes and other hazards.
- Do not enter areas that are closed or where emergency crews are working.
â›” Recreational off-road vehicle restriction remains in effect
Effective August 10, recreational use of off-road vehicles on Crown land in the Kamloops Fire Centre, including the Clinton area, is temporarily prohibited due to extreme wildfire conditions.
The restriction includes ATVs, off-road motorcycles and side-by-side vehicles and is intended to reduce the risk of new human-caused wildfires.
The restriction does not apply to private land or national parks, or to authorized uses including emergency response and certain agricultural, commercial and industrial activities.
Anyone who violates the restriction may face a fine of up to $1,150. If their actions cause or contribute to a wildfire, they may also be responsible for firefighting and associated costs.
BC Wildfire Service is asking people to avoid backcountry areas where possible while wildfire activity remains high.
Conditions around Clinton and throughout B.C. are continuing to change. Please plan ahead, respect closures and restrictions, and use extra caution in wildfire-affected areas.
