The cold front that moved in on August 1 brought high winds and continued to challenge response crews and containment lines, but no further damage was reported within the Village limits. We would like to thank BC Wildfire Service and the response agencies across the province and Alberta Wildfire for their incredible work to keep our community safe.
Today, August 2, personnel and resources will be focusing on re-establishing containment lines with the wind shift. Structure protection personnel continue to prioritize work where there is active fire in and around structures, as well as triage and deployment of structure protection equipment ahead of the fire, where it is safe to do so.
The Village remains on Evacuation Order.
What’s next
As reported earlier, the Village of Clinton has completed rapid damage assessments for major damage only. Impacted residents have been contacted directly.
Additional damage may still be discovered or minor damage that has not yet been assessed due to access and safety concerns. The wildfire remains active and further damage within the Village still remains a possibility.
Damage assessments will continue as soon as possible in areas when safe to do so. At the same time, local and regional partners are beginning preparations for community recovery and re-entry planning to support a successful return home. While these discussions are important, we can’t stress enough that we remain in an active fire zone and the safety of residents, responders and the community continues to be our top priority. Please follow official updates and evacuation information as it becomes available.
Travelling
Highway 97 is fully closed through Clinton, between Loon Lake Road and 76 Mile Frontage Road for 60.3 km. Detours are via Highway 24 and Highway 5 north.

ESS update
Accommodations are available in Merritt and Kamloops as well as group lodging. Muster and Reception Centres are available in West Kelowna, Kelowna, Kamloops, and Prince George is expected to open a centre later this week once a location is secured.
We encourage evacuees to get the BC Services Card app, which is a digital ID for your mobile device and may help you receive faster service (e.g. direct deposits) when registering for ERA. If you need support setting up the app before you register for ESS call 1-888-356-2741.

Animal and pet rescue support is available to evacuees. Please contact Canadian Disaster Animal Response Team (C-Dart) email cheryl.rodgers@cdart.org, and the Animal Lifeline Emergency Response Team (ALERT), call 236-597-7719. Alternatively, contact the BCSPCA at 1-855-622-7722 for emergency boarding requests for pets.
