August 1, 2026 (AM) Update
BC Wildfire Service is expecting extreme fire behaviour today (August 1) as a cold front moves through the area, bringing gusty winds. Yesterday (July 31) crews were able to complete 160 hectares of the initial planned ignition operation to the north of Clinton, along the west side of Highway 97. This removed fuel between the fires edge and Highway 97.
This ignition supported with containment efforts to safeguard property and infrastructure by burning to existing and constructed fire control lines. The original ignition area covered a total of 2,974 hectares; however, with the fire’s natural growth and the section that was previously burnt, the remaining area is now smaller. The remainder of this ignition will only go ahead if conditions are favourable, and with the expected weather today it is unlikely to occur. Crews will be monitoring the area throughout the day as needed.
Reminder: The evacuation order for the Village of Clinton remains in effect.
- If you are in the evacuation order area and need assistance to evacuate, please contact the Clinton EOC at (250) 377-6313. If you are in immediate danger or need medical assistance, call 9-1-1.
- If you have left pets/livestock behind in the Village, we are working with property owners and partner agencies to care for pets/livestock until safe retrieval can be completed.
