Clinton Creek Slope Stability

Clinton residents on both sides of McDonald Avenue remain under an Evacuation Alert due to risk of flood and slope instability.

Residents in the identified Clinton Creek area face a risk of flooding that could cause harm to people and damage to property, and are being asked to take extra steps to prepare in case conditions change.

The Village of Clinton is actively working with the TNRD, geotechnical engineers and other project partners to assess, mitgate and monitor conditions near Clinton Creek.

Public Works staff will visit properties in the identified area August 24–26 to provide residents with additional information about the risk, preparedness and planned work.

About the Clinton Creek Stabilization Project

Flood and slope instability in the Clinton Creek area were identified as concerns before the Pear Lake wildfire, including through the Village’s 2025 Flood Mitigation Plan.

The wildfire has changed conditions in the Clinton Creek watershed. Loss of vegetation and changes to the ground can increase runoff during rainfall and make it easier for ash, soil, branches and other debris to move into Clinton Creek.

One area of particular concern is where Clinton Creek passes beneath the railway embankment. Wildfire debris carried downstream could block the existing culvert, causing water to accumulate and increasing the potential for flooding, erosion and slope instability.

The Village has taken immediate action to reduce the risk. Staff are working with geotechnical engineers, the TNRD, CN Railway and other project partners to assess and monitor conditions and identify additional measures. This includes planning work to help prevent debris from reaching and blocking the railway culvert, while longer-term solutions are assessed.

Information for Residents

You do not need to evacuate at this time.

Residents in the identified area should be prepared in case conditions change and an evacuation becomes necessary.

Be particularly alert during and after periods of rainfall, when runoff may move ash, soil, branches and other debris into Clinton Creek.

• Keep identification, medications, important documents and essential items ready.
• Have a plan for pets and animals.
• Know which direction you would need to travel if you are told to evacuate.
• Contact the Clinton EOC if you may need assistance evacuating.

If you live North of McDonald Avenue: Head NORTH to leave the area.

If you live South of McDonald Avenue: Head SOUTH to leave the area.

The map identifies the potentially affected area and the direction residents should travel if an evacuation is required.

If an Evacuation Is Required

Leave immediately.

Follow the directions provided through Voyent Alert! and instructions from emergency personnel.

Do not wait until you can see a slope failure or debris flow before leaving.
