BC Wildfire update
BC Wildfire Service crews continue to make good progress around the Village of Clinton.
Firefighters are working on all sides of the village to put out hot spots, strengthen control lines and remove vegetation that could still burn. This work helps reduce the risk of the fire spreading within the community.
Last night, crews completed a planned ignition operation on the west side of Clinton along the rail line. Using drip torches, they safely burned remaining vegetation between the fire and established control lines. This work helped secure the fire perimeter near the community and reduce the risk of future fire growth.
The area west of Clinton is steep and heavily forested, making access challenging. This successful planned ignition operation has allowed crews to connect the fire edge to existing control lines, creating a safer and more secure perimeter.
Firefighters will continue to mop up along the fire’s edge. This includes extinguishing lingering hot spots and removing remaining sources of fuel that could reignite.
Northeast of Clinton, crews are also using planned ignitions to safely remove unburned vegetation within the fire perimeter. This work helps keep the fire north of Bonaparte Creek and reduces the chance of embers causing new spot fires near structures.
Fire suppression and hazard reduction efforts remain active around Clinton as crews continue working to improve safety conditions and support recovery efforts.
The evacuation order for the Village of Clinton remains in place and there is no estimated timeline for re-entry.
Water treatment plant activities
Work on the removal of danger trees began today around the water treatment plant. A site visit occurred today to conduct an initial assessment of the wildfire damage. Next steps will involve further evaluation of the upper reservoir and the development of a testing regime, with the aid of agencies and service providers, to bring the plant online as soon as the threat of wildfire has subsided.

BC Hydro crews are working to restore power. Residents can access the most up to date information online at BC Hydro’s outage map.
Re-entry planning
We’re working closely with TNRD to assist with managing spoiled food, appliances and wildfire debris in time for residents to re-enter. There are several activities to be coordinated and the Emergency Operations Centre will share more information when it is available.
Initial water testing has begun as part of the overall plan to bring the plant online in the most efficient and timely way possible. The felling of dangerous trees around the water treatment plant continues over the next few days.
