Clinton Welcomes the Showy Aster as Its Official Community Flower
Showy Asters in full bloom—bursting with color and life at the height of late summer, offering vital nectar to pollinators.
The Village of Clinton has officially adopted the Showy Aster (*Eurybia conspicua*) as its official community flower. At the regular council meeting held on May 28th, the motion brought forward by the Clinton Roots and Blooms Society (formerly the Clinton Communities in Bloom and Beautification Society) was accepted and passed with enthusiasm. This vibrant native plant now stands as a living symbol of Clinton’s resilience, natural beauty, and commitment to pollinator support.
Why the Showy Aster?
The Showy Aster, a hardy perennial native to British Columbia, embodies the spirit of Clinton in both beauty and strength. Here’s what makes it a perfect choice for our community:
- 🌿 *Perennial*: Returns year after year, symbolizing enduring community spirit.
- 🌸 *Late Bloom*: Blooms from mid-August to September, providing critical nectar when other flowers have faded.
- 🏞 *Hardy Habitat*: Thrives in various conditions, including disturbed soils—much like our adaptable and determined residents.
- 🌱 *Spread*: Expands modestly through rhizomes and seeds, reflecting Clinton’s steady, organic growth.
- 🦌 *Deer Resistant*: Less palatable to deer, making it a practical addition to local gardens.
- 🐝 *Pollinator Friendly*: A haven for bees and butterflies, reinforcing our role in supporting local ecosystems.
A Community Rooted in Beauty
The selection of the Showy Aster not only enhances Clinton’s natural identity but also supports pollinator populations and beautifies public and private spaces. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen community pride, ecological stewardship, and local heritage through meaningful beautification projects.
