Avoid Late Fees: Prepare Now for the Property Tax Deadline and Postal Disruptions

Avoid Late Fees: Prepare Now for the Property Tax Deadline and Postal Disruptions

As your local government, the Village of Clinton is committed to keeping residents informed and prepared.
With a potential Canada Post strike on the horizon—expected to begin May 22, 2025—we want to ensure that
every property owner is aware of how this may impact property tax payments due Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

Why This Matters

A strike could delay mail delivery, affecting when we receive your property tax payment. According to BC
legislation, we must apply a 10% penalty to all unpaid current taxes as of July 3, 2025, regardless of
the reason for the delay.

How to Avoid Late Penalties

To help you avoid unnecessary penalties, we encourage you to consider one of the following payment options:

1. In-Person Payment
Visit the Village Office with cash, cheque, or debit.

2. E-Transfer
Send payment to admin@village.clinton.bc.ca. Please allow 2 business days for processing.

3. Online Banking
Use your financial institution’s online bill payment services.
Important: Ensure funds are deposited on or before July 2nd. The date you initiate payment is not considered
the payment date—only when funds reach our account.

4. Courier Services (e.g., Purolator)
To ensure on-time delivery, you may send your cheque by courier. Payments sent via Purolator or other
guaranteed delivery services must arrive at the Village Office no later than July 2, 2025.

5. Mail (Only if Sent Well in Advance)
Mail-in cheques must arrive by July 2nd to avoid the penalty. Mail lost or delayed due to a postal
service disruption will still be subject to penalty.

What You Need to Know

– Payments must be received (not just sent) by July 2, 2025.
– If you are paying through your bank or online, confirm with them when the funds will be deposited.
– If your mail arrives after the due date, it will not be exempt from the penalty—even if it was sent before the deadline.

Let’s Stay Ahead Together

We understand that this situation is out of everyone’s control, but by planning ahead and using alternative
payment methods, we can help you avoid frustration and extra fees.
